.The United Mates Keitel and Joe are joined by Marvell Wynne, the first pick from the 2006 MLS SuperDraft, to discuss his life and career.

On Marvell’s childhood and school:

Growing up with a professional athlete as a father(Marvell’s father, Marvell Sr., played in the MLB for the Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres and the Chicago Cubs). Moving to Japan(Marvell Sr. moved the family to Kobe when he played for the Hanshin Tigers). Being the fastest kid on the football pitch(Marvell was recorded running the 100 meters in high school in just over 10 seconds.) Being a Bruin(Marvell’s performances for the UCLA Bruins men’s Soccer team propelled him to become the 1st pick at the 2006 MLS SuperDraft.)

On Marvell’s career in the MLS:

Being drafted to the New York/New Jersey Metrostars (Marvell joined up with the likes of French World Cup winner Youri Djorkaeff and a young Jozy Altidore at the Metrostars who would soon become the NY Red Bulls.) Being traded to Toronto FC (Marvell left New Jersey to join Canada’s first ever MLS franchise and explains how advice from his father helped him cope with the dejection of being traded. Marvell tells us about the time he pocketed Cristiano Ronaldo in a pre-season friendly.) His time with the Colorado Rapids(Marvell joined Stan Kroenke’s team at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, the most highly elevated stadium in MLS. Marvell reminisces about winning the MLS cup and getting the chance to meet President Obama at the White House.) Finishing his career with the San Jose Earthquakes(Marvell had to retire from the game during his time with the Quakes due to a heart condition. On the lighter side he tells the story of his brief modelling career when he had the chance to take to the catwalk to promote the new Quakes jersey.)

On Marvell’s International career:

The 2008 Beijing Olympics(Marvell represented team USA at the most historical sporting event of all time, the Olympic games, where he met President George Bush.) His debut for the senior team against Argentina (Marvell talks about his nerves before making his debut against the likes of a 20 year old Lionel Messi and players such as Veron, Mascherano, Zanetti and Crespo etc.) Prediction for the 2026 World Cup ( Marvell gives his opinion on the potential of the US men’s national team going into a World Cup on home soil.)
